Using a Solar Power Attic Fan to Reduce Costs

In many homes, the attic is usually the warmest place in the house, and can lead to increased electrical costs if you use a fan in the attic to push the hot air out. Many homes do this because it allows the fan to only go on when the temperature gets to a certain point, therefore making it cooler in the attic, especially during the day.

However, by doing this you are continually using your electric for a room that you simply do not use that often, which can lead to increased electrical charges on your bill. Instead, you may want to consider using a solar power attic fan, which does essentially the same thing but won’t cost you anything at all except the price of the fan.

A solar power attic fan works almost exactly the same way except that it runs from the sun rather than your electricity. So, during the day when the sun is shining, the solar power attic fan will run to cool down your attic every time it reaches a certain point, as it also uses a thermostat. It can draw the solar power either from a solar panel or from a batter that is connected to a converter which allows you to store up that power so it’ll run when it needs to, even at night. While most solar power attic fans run on 120 volts of alternating currents, the newer ones also run on the power produced by solar cells.

If you choose to go with a solar panel in order to run your solar power attic fan, you will need to determine the size of the fan as well as the size of the solar panel that you will install on the roof. They usually vary, and the larger the fan’s motor is, the larger your solar panel will need to be. As the day heats up and the sun gets stronger, the solar power attic fan will automatically pull power from the battery so even when it is dark the fan will continue to work, allowing the cooler air into the attic. Then on the days that it is very sunny, the solar panel will conduct the sun into the fan without using what is currently stored up in the batter.

Therefore there will be less electrical costs to you, which can decrease the size of you electrical bill each month. The investment which you put into the solar power attic fan will certain be made back in no time and you will be well on your way to saving money using natural power.
