How a Solar Power Station Provides Environmentally Safe and Free Electricity

Covering several acres in one area, solar power stations have become very effective in offering safe electricity for the environment at a very low cost. Found throughout the world, but mostly in desert areas, they provide a maximum amount of usage for the area around it.

Solar power stations are made up of several solar panels that cover a large amount of acreage so that they can provide up to a certain amount of free electricity. The panels are stacked onto towers and use automatic motors to adjust the height and angle of the panels so that they are always in the direct sunlight in order to garner a large amount of power. Another method that works well in solar power stations involves parabolic dishes that use the suns light to reflect in the middle of the dish, much like a satellite dish does. It basically gathers the sun and then transfers the energy to photovoltaic cells which convert it into energy. The power that is charged can then turn the turbines to generate electricity which can be distributed to many grids in the area, or long distance.

The amount of power that the solar power stations can distribute is largely based on the size of the towers as well as the amount and size of the dishes used. On an average, a solar power station that covers approximately 20 acres of land can provide enough power for up to 10,000 homes, which is a lot considering that 20 acres of land isn’t that large. That is why deserts are predominately the space in which they put solar power stations, since this land is generally unavailable for other uses.

A solar power station is very quiet as well, and although there aren’t that many houses around the area to begin with, it is still an advantage. Not to mention, these stations require almost no maintenance whatsoever since there are no moving parts or anything to do. The thing that solar power stations have to worry about is having someone there to remove and dust and dirt from the cells once in a while. As compared to power plants that use coal and oil to fire their turbines, it is a lot easier, more low cost, and much safer, as there is no fire or explosions to worry about.

A solar power station of this magnitude doesn’t even require much infrastructure to build, or to move the power to other homes in the area or neighboring communities. With these benefits it would be wise if more cities build these throughout the world to provide free and safe electricity.
